The Olympics (rant)

If you cast your mind back a whole two months you may recall that a rather large event took place. Something which occurs but once every 4 years and encompasses the entire globe and obviously draws a lot of attention from society.

Naturally everyone who isn't able to see the Olympics live would want to be able to watch any event. Most people like to support their birth nation, yet in Australia this often means people are supporting more than one country throughout the entire two weeks.

For those not fortunate enough to have the very comprehensive Foxtel coverage received quite good coverage of the Olympics... If you wanted to watch TV to see ads and occasionally some Australian focused Olympics action.

The clear dislike for channel 9's 'coverage' was expressed through a delightful Facebook page which received around 27 000 likes and contains some rather funny images on the topic.

Last but not least, They didn't even have the decency to throw the same amount of money at the Paralympics. which, ironically, was a good thing since it meant that there was actually decent tv coverage of the Paralympics.

P.S. I know it isn't technically a TV show per se , but it was a show on TV.

The Simpsons

A show many of us grew up with and still watch until this day. The Simpsons. Yes, everyone's favourite four-fingered family! There used to be a time where I would have seen every episode that would come on, but with all the new seasons out, I have a bit of catching up to do.
The Simpsons originally started in 1987 (older than I am!) as shorts by Matt Groening on The Tracey Ullman Show. It wasn't until 1989 that they were created into 30 minute episodes (including ads). The show has now grown into a very successful animated show with up to 23 seasons, over 500 episodes and one movie, and it's still growing! Just like all shows, the animation has greatly improved over the years (see images below).

The show features the Simpsons family (Homer, Marge, Bart, Lisa and Maggie) and the residents of Springfield, and occasionally the neighbouring town Shelbyville. The show is set in America, but there has been no confirmation of which state the Simpsons live in. Springfield is the most common city name in USA as it appears in 22 states.
What mischief will they get up to next? Well, there's only one way to find out!

Reality TV Shows- Big Brother Australia

Over recent years we have seen a significant rise in reality tv shows, from The Voice to The Shire. These shows range from achieving significant success to absolute ratings failure. Despite this risk, Channel 9 in Australia has relaunched Big Brother, the 'ultimate social experiment'. Big Brother was taken off the air in 2008, due to much controversy. Yet the 9th season has received ongoing ratings of 1.2million deeming it a success. Contestants are required to participate in a number of tasks in order to secure food for the week. However, the most exciting aspect of the show is definitely the intruders. Intruders are meant to spice up life in the house and create new tensions. So far this season there have been two intruders who have entered the house, Ava and Sam. Ava entered the Big Brother House last week and already has stirred up tensions with the housemates. She has become particularly close with Estelle, spending most of her time in the house with her. Many of the housemates believe this had shut her off from getting to know the rest of them. Another interesting relationship which has developed, is between her and Josh. We saw them sneak a kiss on a number of occasions. So what will happen next??

Ultimately, it is this scandal and tension which drives the show otherwise it would viewers would loose interest quickly. As apart from the tensions in group dynamics, there is not much further substance to the show. Despite this, viewers still tune in on a nightly basis to watch.

Scrubs

So I thought it was time we posted something about TV shows!
I was watching my favourite show the other day - Scrubs. It's a really funny show and I highly recommend it to anyone who wants to have a good laugh. Two of the main characters, JD and Turk, have the biggest "bromance" known to man. They're both medical students starting out in their first year together.
The episode I watched was the very first one, where we're introduced to all the characters and the origin of the janitor's, known as Janitor, dislike for JD. What is the reason? Well I guess you'll just have to watch the show!

JD and Turk. The definition of "bromance"!

Design, Layout and all that good stuff

Great news!

We have finally decided on a layout and design for this blog. As you can see we only had a simple layout plan which was lucky since nobody is a blogger.com pro...yet.

As for the design, we went for a fairly simple template that we all liked, took the background from another template and tweaked some html.

*EDIT* had some issues with text colour and the layout. so we swapped the gadgets around a little and changed text colours
